Running with Purpose: Meet David Mora, Arduua’s New Trail Running Coach
At Arduua, trail running is more than a sport — it’s a way of life rooted in exploration, self-discovery, and mountain spirit.
That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome David Mora to our Coaching Team.
David is not just a coach — he’s a passionate trail runner, a lifelong athlete, and a dedicated guide for those ready to grow stronger on the trail. Based in Madrid and backed by a solid academic foundation in sports science, he brings a rare mix of lived experience, empathy, and evidence-based training methods to the Arduua community.
Whether you’re just starting out or chasing new goals, David’s mission is clear: to help all types of trail runners — not just mountain athletes — build strength, confidence, and joy through purposeful training.

Who Is David Mora?
David Mora is a lifelong athlete from Madrid, Spain. Now 37 years old, his athletic journey began with tennis at age 12, competing at the regional level for six years. In 2006, he started doing road races and triathlons, and for the past 7–8 years, trail running has become his true passion.
“I’ve lived in a mountain village in Madrid for over 20 years and always ran in the mountains on my long runs. But I truly fell in love with trail running over 7 years ago—because it gave me freedom, tranquility, and a deep connection to nature.”
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid and completed a Postgraduate Degree in Trail Running at UDIMA in 2023.
“It was at that moment that I decided to start making my passion my job and share that passion for the mountains with more athletes.”
Why Coaching?
“I decided to dedicate myself to coaching runners to share with them all the emotions they experience in their daily training, so they can strive for their goals and enjoy unique experiences participating in races around the world.”
David’s coaching style focuses on more than just physical development—he wants his athletes to feel supported, understood, and empowered.
“What I like most about coaching is the feeling of being useful and that I’m doing a job that makes other people better and, above all, makes them feel better doing what they love.”

Coaching Philosophy
“My philosophy as a coach is based on empathy and continuous communication with the athlete. I believe that understanding the athlete, their lifestyle, their work, their free time, and their understanding of the sport is key to helping them progress in the short and long term.”
He emphasizes:
- Consistency in training and life
- Realistic, personalized planning
- Rest, nutrition, and stress management
- Enjoyment and presence in the journey
“I believe the secret to long-term well-being is consistency in daily work and knowing how to enjoy that work regardless of your long-term goals.”
Coaching Journey So Far
David officially began coaching in 2023, and though early in his professional journey, his perspective is constantly evolving.
“When I started, my vision of training methods was more classic, but now I believe that you have to stay updated if you want to become a better coach.”
A highlight so far? Helping a beginner athlete complete her first 48K trail race—and place 6th in her category.
“That transformation and their gratitude make it incredibly rewarding.”
Athlete-Centered Approach
While David enjoys working with athletes at every level, he feels especially connected to beginners.
“They go from having no experience to finishing a race. That transformation and their gratitude make it incredibly rewarding.”
He addresses common trail running challenges such as:
- Race nutrition and hydration
- Understanding training zones and intensity
- Valuing rest and recovery
“These three things are pillars of trail running performance—and it’s crucial to respect and understand them.”
A Week in the Life
David’s personal training week includes:
- 4 running sessions: one long mountain run, one intensity workout, and two aerobic runs
- 2 strength sessions: focused on legs and core
- 1 mobility or cycling session
- 1 full rest day, when possible
“I try to protect the important workouts—especially the long run and the intensity session—and build the rest of the week around recovery.”
Joining Arduua
“Joining Arduua is a dream. It’s a chance to work in something I love, share my passion, and grow alongside a team that values both performance and heart.”
With Arduua, David hopes to:
- Help athletes grow through consistency and trust
- Be part of a supportive, international coaching team
- Guide runners to feel stronger, healthier, and more confident
Advice for Trail Runners
“Consistency is the key to becoming a better runner. But my best advice is to enjoy every stage, the daily training, and take your time jumping from distance to distance until you’ve mastered the shorter ones.”
David reminds us that patience and joy are powerful tools in the mountains.
