Beyond the Dream: Johannes & Sara’s First 100-Mile Finish at Sörmland Ultra
“This was not just a dream — we actually made it come true.”
On the 5th of September 2025, Johannes Reichhuber, 56, and his daughter Sarah, 27 crossed the finish line of Sörmland 100 Miles after more than 34 hours of running — an unforgettable achievement and a shared adventure they’ll cherish for life.
But this wasn’t just a race.
It was a personal challenge, a father-daughter journey, and a deeply intentional goal that required months of careful preparation, strategic coaching, and a strong emotional commitment. And they made it — all 175 km, through heat, darkness, doubt, and triumph.

A Race with Purpose
Sörmland 100 Miles was the perfect race to attempt something new: not just for Johannes and Sara to push past their previous longest distance, but to break the 100 km barrier — and run through an entire night for the first time.
Why Sörmland?
Because it offered the right combination of factors:
✔️ Summertime start — not as dark or cold as Kullamannen in November
✔️ A scenic but familiar trail profile — close to Stockholm
✔️ Similar elevation and terrain to what they were used to training on
The race began at 1:00 PM in Mariefred, with unseasonably high temperatures near 25°C. That meant the early challenge was hydration and pacing — staying cool, drinking smart, and not pushing too hard too early.
“But once the sun set and the temperature dropped, the magic began.”
Through the Night and Beyond
Running through the night in perfect conditions (t-shirts and no wind!) gave a huge mental and physical boost. Even the more technical forest sections, although slow-going, felt manageable and part of the adventure.
At the halfway mark, they were behind their plan by one hour — but still far ahead of the cut-off.
“We managed nutrition well and had strong legs all the way to Nyköping.”
With 125 km behind them, sausages and alcohol-free beer at the aid station became fuel for the soul, not just the body. Spirits were high, confidence soared — and for the first time, it felt real:
“We’re going to finish.”
But the trail had other plans. The sun reappeared. The heat returned.
And with it — doubt.
“For the first time, thoughts of dropping out arrived…”
Hot, exposed trails with no lakes or streams meant the pace dropped again. But thanks to supportive volunteers, good aid station food, and the presence of other runners (with stronger headlamps!), they powered through.
The final kilometers were brutal — steep climbs and descents along Bråviken bay, at the end of an already epic journey.
But then… the sound of the speaker at the finish line.
“We could run the last remaining kilometer quite quickly — and with still unbelievably strong legs.”
34+ hours. 175 km. Zero injuries. Just two proud runners, a dream fulfilled, and a memory etched forever.

Smart Training Made It Possible
Johannes credits the achievement to more than just willpower. It was also about smart, sustainable training, led by Arduua Coach David García.
“The individual program by Arduua Coach David and all his tips along the way had a huge contribution to making this achievement possible.”
Coach David designed a plan that worked with Johannes’ age (56) and lifestyle — balancing progression with injury prevention.
Key training elements included:
- Personalized weekly structure
- 1-hour interval sessions
- Long runs (without back-to-back overload)
- Targeted strength & mobility
- Equipment adjustments (switching from chest to arm-based HR monitor)
- Real-time coaching and encouragement
Johannes and Sara also scheduled two strategic lead-up races:
🏃♂️ Sörmlands Winter Trail (45 km) in February
🏃♀️ Jättelångt Ultra (70 km) in June
⛰️ + a 6-day mountain running block in Wales for elevation training
The goal? Arrive well-prepared — but more importantly, injury-free. And that’s exactly what they did.
“We felt prepared, but also healthy — without overdoing the load.”
From Dream to Finish Line
This journey was about more than miles. It was about shared purpose, mutual support, and trusting the process — one step, one session, one decision at a time.
Johannes and Sara didn’t just complete their first 100 miles.
They enjoyed it, learned from it, and grew together.
“Making it all the way was such an amazing experience — and already one of the best memories and proudest moments of our lives.”
