The Road to UTMB Starts Long Before Chamonix

Itโ€™s UTMB week! ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

One of the biggest weeks of the global trail running season is here, and this year three Team Arduua athletes have made it all the way to the UTMB World Series Finals in Chamonix.

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Tijana Pljeskonjic โ€“ CCC / 101K / 6,050D+
๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Lee Wells โ€“ UTMB / 174K / 9,900D+
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Alessandro Rostagno โ€“ UTMB / 175K / 9,900D+

We are incredibly excited to follow them around Mont Blanc and wish them all the strength, patience and determination they will need out there. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

But UTMB week is only the final chapter of a much longer journey.

Because the road to Chamonix doesnโ€™t start in Chamonix.

It starts months โ€” and sometimes years โ€” earlier.

Team Arduua on the UTMB World Series ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Throughout 2026, Team Arduua runners have been racing UTMB World Series events across Europe โ€” collecting experience, pushing their limits, chasing Running Stones and working towards their own big mountain goals.

And while Tijana, Lee and Alessandro are representing Team Arduua in Chamonix this week, we also want to celebrate everyone who has been part of that journey this season.

A Big Goal Starts With a Plan

Watching UTMB can make Chamonix look like the destination.

But as coaches, we see everything that comes before it.

The early mornings.

The easy runs when nobody is watching.

The threshold sessions.

The strength training.

The long mountain days.

The races that go perfectly โ€” and the races that don’t.

The injuries and setbacks.

The months of gradually building a stronger runner.

That’s the real road to UTMB.

And it is also why preparing for a major trail race should not begin a few weeks before the event.

What Could Your 2027 Trail Season Look Like?

Maybe your next goal isn’t UTMB.

Maybe you want to run your first trail half marathon.

Your first mountain marathon.

Your first 50K.

Your first 100K.

Maybe you want to step up to 100 miles.

Or perhaps you already have the bigger dream in your head:

OCC. CCC. UTMB. Chamonix.

Whatever your goal, now is a great time to start thinking about your 2027 season.

Autumn gives us time to build the foundations before the major race-specific training begins.

Aerobic capacity.

Strength.

Mobility and stability.

Running economy.

Threshold.

Uphill and downhill ability.

And, importantly, the resilience required to handle the training that comes later.

Then, as your goal race gets closer, training becomes progressively more specific to your race distance, elevation, terrain and individual needs.
